What is Report + Support?

Report + Support is a secure online reporting platform developed by an external organisation, Culture Shift, where students can report issues of inappropriate behaviour from other students and staff with their contact details, so that a staff member from the Office of Student Conduct, Complaints and Appeals can be in touch to discuss next steps.

Who can make a report?

University of Cambridge students can make a report through Report + Support.

What happens when someone makes a report?

If someone makes a named report then a member of staff from the Office of Student Conduct, Complaint will get in touch with you in 5 working days to talk through the next steps.  With your consent, the University will investigate what has happened and/or take action to ensure that you and others within the Cambridge community are able to work and study in a safe environment.

Why can I not report on behalf of someone else?

When you have been the target of inappropriate behaviour your control of the situation has been taken away.  It is important that when choosing how to respond to the inappropriate behaviour that the person who has been subjected to the behaviour remains in control.  As a result, this system only permits the person who has been subjected to the behaviour to choose whether or not to formally report it.

How will the University manage malicious reports?

If a report is found to be malicious or vexatious, such reports will be addressed under existing procedures, which can include disciplinary action.

What do you do with the data gathered from named reports?

The data collected from Report + Support is used to produce anonymised annual reports. These reports include the number of cases, most reported incident type and location.

How secure is the data and information sent through the system?

Data held on Report + Support is GDPR compliant and further information about how data is collected and stored is outlined in the Privacy Notice. The system has been security tested by both the developer, Culture Shift, and by the University.

How long is data stored on the system?

At all times we will handle personal data collected via the Report + Support tool confidentially and securely. We will retain and use it only for as long as necessary to meet the purposes listed in the Privacy Notice.  In general, we will keep records of all reports for three years following the closure of the case on the Report + Support tool.  Personal data collected initially via the Report + Support tool but then used in connection with formal University procedures will be retained in accordance with the standard periods for such procedures set out in the University’s records management documentation. Anonymised information in connection with the Report + Support tool may be retained for longer to monitor and assess our work in this area.

We will only retain personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for. We will keep records of reports one year from case closure on the Report + Support system as outlined in the Privacy Notice. All personal data will be kept according to the Records Retention Schedule.
